Knights dominate
Under dark skies and a spot of early rain … unforecasted by head weather reporter Burs, a moment of panic, the covers briefly on and off and we were underway.
Archie and Hoggie started off and both bowled tidy, probably unlucky not to take any wickets, a few flashes and edges down to 3rd man, wickets were coming. A shocking run call from the non-striker and Westy and Archie combined for a straightforward runout.
To Skippers surprise Hoggie took himself off and Sam joined the attack and bowled nicely for his 3 overs, again some flashes of the blade and lucky edges and probably unlucky not to take a wicket. Westy bowled his first 2 overs to no avail and then like buses, 2 came at once. A simple catch from Archie and then poles, a bit of a send off after the non striker had advised carting him over cow… we won’t talk about his final over … carted!
Jord and Burs joined for the spinners union, Jordan and Rob combined for what was a great catch under the lid by Rob… we celebrated not realising that Jord had in fact booted the stumps down during the delivery, Jord knew Loz knew, the team did not… 2 no balls.
Burs’ first over was one to forget, a dropped catch and a massive 6 into the car park… followed up by a brief complaint about small boundaries before combining with Douglas for a catch at long on. There was also a drop off Jordan’s bowling before skippy Westy taking a regulation catch and a stumping on the final ball. Knights left the field requiring 125, game over?
Douglas and Harvey opened up, Doug promoted after a week of rest, a partnership of 51 runs was a great start, Harvey really having to work hard for his runs clothed a full toss to midwicket. Westy came in… I was going to make some sort of sarcastic joke about incredible bowling but in reality some shocking batting 0(6)- back down the order you go son.
Sam came in off the back of a 25* and with Skippers bat in hand took no prisoners a strike rate of 235 (47 off 20) and Douglas continuing his fine scoring form before middling it down long offs throat for 48. Douglas finally has an average in the T20 league… 187… I think there was a slight panic that Sam would overtake him and leave him stranded. Ollie came in 2* from 4 to see the over out before Sam finished up in fine fashion.
Game over. 5/5. Still unbeaten, knights head on the road to Alscott which has been branded a batting paradise. Can we be stopped? Tune in next week!
