Church knights match report vs Allscott heath
Tonight Church Eaton Knights took to the field for their highly anticipated 1st game of the season, not only that but a highly anticipated return for a certain Will Ross, Altrincham is treating him well- 70s pornstar must be in fashion up that neck of the woods.
After a good spell at the weekend Ross took the new ball, caterpillar tache and mullet blowing in the wind, with how far Thornton hit it the ball could have quite easily ended up in Manchester…
Archie Wilkes on the other hand gave the opening pair no chances and saw the captain off pretty swiftly, always a good sight seeing stumps cartwheeling… as was Gerry!
Hogarth steadied the ship with a rare T20 maiden before the spinners took to the pitch. Hughes took 2, CE’s pro and all formats specialist talbot took another 4 scalps to bring his wickets tally up to 17! If you haven’t already get him in your fantasy team!
As they say catches win matches 5 catches with no drops (we’ll ignore skipper west dropping a no-ball off Ross’ bowling) Arnold with 2, Hughes with 1, holdcroft with 1 and Peasley behind the stumps took another.
From 52/1 from 6 overs to 123/7 from the allotted 20, great recovery it could be said.
Onto the batting, Holdcroft and Arnold opened, Holdcroft’s only stipulation was that as long as West was no where near him he would bat where the skipper would like, one game opening together was enough.
Arnold got an absolute peach and his game was done, Holdcroft got to double figures and got a low one, it was quite low to be fair… did anyone say it kept low?
Hughes set to work… 1 word class the bowling side had no answers and quite comfortably got himself to 49- after 1 maybe 2 attempts at a boom or bust heroic approach to reach 50 and retire he sensibly opted for a single- just in case.
Sidwell after being dropped on 0 moved quickly to 17, before getting out to in his own words “the worst shot I’ve ever played, don’t clap me off”
Rowlands batted nicely into a support act for Hughes after been warned “think about it” by his mum! A nice boundary in the mix much to crowds delight.
Ross entered the fray, you could hear Burs booing from Windsor, another nice boundary some good running with Hughes and he was bowled… thanks for coming!
That left virtually a brand new partnership of Hogarth and west, some lack lustre fielding and quick running even Matty G couldn’t keep up. They were left 4 to win, Hogarth took no time in seeing the boundary off, with some scorecard technical errors and the game was done.
All round a good team performance, played in a good way by both sides. Church take the 20points but cricket was the winner!
