Church under tens went away to brewood for their 2nd fixture of the season.
Bank hols commitments meant we could only field 6 players, with our opponents graciously lending us 2 fielders as we opened proceedings with the ball.
Niamh green bowled beautifully with great accuracy, and nicked a fine Bowled wicket with a perfect Yorker.
At the other end. Woodrow, ever improving changed things up with his left arm around approach. Nice and tidy!
That bought on our u10s trio of Archie, Ethan and oliver who has to bowl 4 overs each due to the shortage of players, and all made a great effort.
Brewood rallied their innings with some fine knocks off their more experienced players, Niall Reid (19), tom simkin (20) and Ben Paice (19) all with super knocks for the opposition.
Debutant Jack Donnelly was quite brilliant behind the stumps for the church and I don’t recall a bye!!
Finishing on a net 286, the challenge was on for the team who were upbeat, and set about their task with great concentration. The opening 2 pairs managing to keep their wickets in tact which as we know in pairs cricket is absolute key to chasing down a score.
Jack D on debut made a fine 21 with some stunning stroke play on display.
Our final pair of Ethan and oliver came on needing a tad over 40 runs, and as is tradition with any u10s fixtures, the game ebbed and flowed at nail biting pace, with the rock solid Ethan from last week unfortunately letting that gap between pad and bat open to allow brewood in with a sniff. Has to be said that the 3 senior brewood bowlers were superb, with Tim simkin tearing in with his quicks and making the batsman jump about a wee bit!
Step up Ollie sidwell, who’d been positive and aggressive from the start, and played some super power hitting and picking the gaps like an old pro, guided the team home with 2 balls to spare, hitting a personal best of 40 and not giving up his wicket.
The church won by 3 runs in a nail biting fixture that the whole team should be super proud of.
