Church Eaton Cricket Club – Sunday XI

As we head into the 2026 season, there’s a real sense of optimism around the Church Eaton Sunday side.

Looking back at 2025, it was a hugely positive campaign and one the group should be proud of.

Finishing 3rd in the Stone & District League was a massive achievement and a clear sign of the progress we’ve made as a team.

It showed that we can compete consistently against strong opposition and put ourselves right up there in the division. Retaining the Spears Cup knockout trophy was also a great success for our village team.

Alongside that, we produced some excellent performances throughout the season, picking up impressive wins and showing the quality we have within the squad.

At the same time, last season highlighted areas where we can still improve. There were games where we were in strong positions but couldn’t quite see things through. Turning those moments into wins will be key for us this year.

What We Learned from 2025
We have the ability to post and chase competitive totals
Our best cricket came when everyone contributed
Close games are where we can take the next step
The squad is developing well, with more players stepping up, and our junior representation continues to grow stronger.
Focus for 2026
Consistency
Building on last year’s success and maintaining high standards every week
Game awareness
Managing key moments better — especially in tight finishes
Energy in the field
Sharp fielding and positive attitudes will win us games
Belief

Finishing 3rd proves we belong at the top end — now it’s about pushing even further
The Opportunity Ahead
There’s a strong core to this group, and we’ve already shown what we can do. After last season’s achievements, the challenge now is to kick on and push even higher.

If we improve in those key areas and keep the same togetherness, there’s no reason we can’t go beyond what we achieved in 2025.

Final Word
Sunday cricket is about competing hard, enjoying the game, and representing the club the right way, and we will approach the 2026 season with this at our core.

Up the Church.
Loz Sidwell
Sunday XI Captain & Director of Cricket
